How to Catch a Prince defies romance novel logic. It’s romantic, but, despite the title, it’s not about catching a man; it’s about keeping him. I think that’s where most of us get it wrong. We have this grand, romantic idea of what getting married will be like, and we forget that the actual ceremony is only a microscopic piece of the marriage. That the day in and day out part is where the real romance is. That love isn’t about heart palpitations and soft kisses but about doing hard things. About serving your spouse no matter what. About being open and honest and available in whatever circumstances arise.
That’s where Hauck unleashes her expertise. That real sort of marriage is hard and doesn’t always sound romantic, but when seen through the lenses of God’s love, it is, and Hauck knows how to showcase that. How to Catch a Prince shows the truth in marriage without being grim or harsh. She follows the royal storyline masterfully, making what could be a hard drama beautiful. The princess plot line meshes seamlessly with the modern world of crime, and Hauck weaves every single thread of the story into a perfect tapestry of romance and grace.
This is the kind of romance story I want to read. The kind I want my kids to read: one in which flawed characters make the best decisions they can and love the best they can even when life hurts. I want to read more stories about God’s love and forgiveness, and this is the best one I’ve read in a very long time.
I read How to Catch a Prince this afternoon, in a single sitting. Now that I’ve turned the last page, I think I’ll go back and turn the first one. I can’t wait to dive into the whole story again.
