Laura Frantz has a spectacular new historical romance releasing soon, and if that’s your genre, you won’t want to miss it! Here’s what A Heart Adrift is all about:
It is 1755, and the threat of war with France looms over colonial York, Virginia. Chocolatier Esmée Shaw is fighting her own battle of the heart. Having reached her twenty-eighth birthday, she is reconciled to life alone after a decade-old failed love affair from which she’s never quite recovered. But she longs to find something worthwhile to do with her life.
Captain Henri Lennox has returned to port after a lengthy absence, intent on completing the lighthouse in the dangerous Chesapeake Bay, a dream he once shared with Esmée. But when the colonial government asks him to lead a secret naval expedition against the French, his future is plunged into uncertainty.
A Heart Adrift will keep you swooning from the first page to the last with Henri, the hunky piratical hero, and Esmee, the beautiful but lonely confectioner and dreamer. This book is full of twists and turns that will keep you engaged and guessing.
I love the setting – the Virginia coast during the French and Indian War – as this time period is quite unique! I enjoyed learning more about what was happening during the Colonies at this time. A Heart Adrift is a ‘smart’ book: it’s certainly fun and enjoyable, but the vocabulary is true to the period and and the text is well written and complex. It’s clear that much thought, research, and work went into the writing of this book! I think readers could even benefit from a vocabulary list at the front of the book to help everyone understand the period words.
The spiritual content meshed well with the action of the story. I appreciate the depth of the lessons and the natural way that they’re shared.
If all of that wasn’t enough, Esmee makes chocolate! How can you go wrong with a book featuring so much delicious chocolate? I’m pretty sure you can’t – and I loved this historical look at our enjoyment of this food.
A Heart Adrift is a sweet and exciting historical romance. You’ll definitely want to check this one out!
I received a complimentary copy of this book from the publisher. All opinions are my own.
