My husband gifted me with a bread machine years ago, and having learned how to make bread from scratch as a kid, I was pleased to find how easy it can be.  After reading the manual for my super-fancy new machine, I was careful to use only the ingredients listed on each recipe and to put them in the pan in the proper order.

As time passed, however, I wanted to be able to vary the ingredients to use a wider variety of grains and less processed ‘stuff,’ but I wasn’t sure how.

After finally seeing a recipe online that used the same kind of flour I use – and one that isn’t listed in my manual as best – My Big Helper and I have done a little experimenting, and I like we’ve come up with.

This recipe makes one large loaf of bread, so if you bake all of your family’s bread like we do, you may not need to bake every day.  It rises well, is easy to slice, and tastes great!
