Last week I took my kids to a local showing of the new movie Beyond the Mask. Made by Christian homeschooling grads, this fantastic movie is a full-action adventure story set in the period leading up to the American Revolution. With bombs, swordfights, and a conflict with the East India Company, there’s much to be learned from this movie.
Afterwards, I asked the kids to make a list of the things they learned from the movie. I thought they’d point out neat details from the historical time period or about the science-y explosions.
Instead, these are their takeaways:
- Revenge is not necessary.
- Trust in God.
- Be honest and don’t lie.
- When we do something wrong, Christ already paid the price.
- It’s about redemption, not revenge. Instead of getting angry, try to help the person instead of hurting him. Forgive him, too.
- Tell the truth first before other things. It is not good to keep secrets about yourself like Will did.
- Be a forgiving person.
- Confess your sins and know that Christ is the ruler.
- Be kind and helpful and trusting; it pays off.
- Control your temper.
I’ll take it.
If you haven’t had the chance to see this amazing movie yet, look for a showing near you here.
