My Little Man has developed a love of graphic novels lately. He loves the stories, the style, the high action, and the bright colors – and that’s why I was so excited to see the new BibleForce First Hero’s Bible release.
This isn’t like the comic book Bible I had as a kid – it’s SO MUCH BETTER! The pictures are big, bright, and bold.
The pictures are bigger, and there are fewer pictures per page, allowing for details to be bigger and pictures more dramatic.
I also like how the titles are in big, bold print. The white font in the black box really stands out! The same is true for the other words, too. Because everything has more space, it is much easier to read. The stories aren’t told in super exact detail, but they are told incredibly well.
The Bible has some really neat features, though, that make it much more than the comic Bibles of old. I really, really love the pages at the beginning. They’re so much more than intro pages – they describe the format, structure, and history of the Bible itself.
The colored blocks at the top left are a list of books in the Old Testament, divided by type of book. The description shares how the first five books are called the Torah, among other things, and then talks about the histories, the Prophets, etc. Detailed are the original languages, how each type was recorded, and how it became what we know as our modern Bible. I love that this information is being included for the very young to grow up with!
These are special pages, too. Tucked throughout the Bible are pages that share more information about special people. Included is information about their family tree, connection to other people and events in the Bible, and why they’re each considered to be heroes. These sections share important biographical information in a really fun way.
I love that there are maps to accompany the text – there are several throughout the Bible. My kids both love maps, and being able to see places in relation to the others can help kids put the stories into the proper context. It’s setting them up to know how to study the Bible, as well, in ways that are great for adults, and so I appreciate the ways that this Bible is preparing them for that.
My Little Man loves his BibleForce First Hero’s Bible. He plopped onto the couch immediately after opening it and started at the beginning. He read straight through, reading every page, until he had finished the whole thing. I actually had a hard time getting my hands on it to so that I could read it and write this review, because he didn’t want to let it out of his sight! He loves to go back and reread his favorite books, and I know this will be one he’ll revisit often.
Because of the special features and fun information, when My Little Man does go back to reread, I know that he’ll be soaking in important facts and stories about the Bible. Theology, too. What book could be better for him to choose to read in his free time than one that will not only entertain him but teach him invaluable Bible study skills?
I received a free copy of this book from FrontGate Media. All opinions are my own.
