Lynette Eason is working with Sunrise Publishing to create a new series that extend the stories of her Elite Guardian books, and the first releases next week. Here’s what Driving Force is all about:
Elite Guardians bodyguard/former sniper CHRISTINA SHERMAN has protected uncooperative clients before—but this time, well her client is bossy, headstrong and occasionally eats off the floor. Yes, he’s a highly trained military working dog, but certainly her skills could be put to better use, right?
Not according to former Special Forces Air Commando GREY PARKER. He needs her help to protect his dog while he undergoes an experimental surgery that could restore his ability to walk. He just needs someone to keep his canine partner safe. Most of all, Grey wants back on his feet so he can track down a deranged scientist known as The Scavenger who unleashed a nerve agent that left Grey sidelined in a wheelchair.
When an attempt is made on Grey’s life, and dead bodies begin piling up—with evidence the same toxin is responsible—suddenly Christina is tasked with keeping both dog and soldier alive…and with them, the secrets that could stop a terrorist attack.
But this time, even Christina might be in over her head.
Fast-paced stories with strong, heroic leads tasked with saving the world as we know it are the best kind of stories – and Kate Angelo and Lynette Eason nailed it all in Driving Force. When you can throw in a heroic, loveable animal, it’s even better – and all of those elements are in high gear in this new novel.
My favorite leads are the strong, highly skilled ones, and so I was cheering for Christina and Grey from the very beginning. These two are fantastic main characters – they’re quirky and creative enough to be real but intense enough to get the job done – and boy, do they have a job ahead of them!
I love the way that Eason and Angelo created pockets of vulnerability within them both, though. They need that: moments where you can glimpse the soft heard behind the hardened armor of a warrior, and they’ve written some stellar scenes showcasing both sides. That dichotomy makes it even more fun when the stakes rise – as it often does in Driving Force.
Angelo didn’t hold anything back when writing the action scenes of this story. I love the attention to detail about how Grey’s wheelchair affects his protection and seeing how they protect Boss. Throwing a chemical weapon into the usual suspense mix of bombs and bullets adds a new layer of intensity to this story, and that mixed with romantic drama is a lethal combination.
Catching up with the Elite Guardians’ cast of characters helped bring this story to life – and if the sneak peek at the next book is any indication, the whole series is one to read immediately. I loved seeing how these women all worked together and I can’t wait to read more about Lizzie’s story – so it’s already on my TBR list. If you love fast-paced suspense with liberal doses of romance and unpredictability, get your hands on a copy of Driving Force now. You’ll be glad you did.
I received a copy of this book from the publisher. All opinions are my own.
