Lynette Eason’s third book in the Extreme Measures series releases Tuesday! This is what Critical Threat is all about:
FBI Special Agent Grace Billingsley tracks serial killers, using her skills as a psychiatrist and behavioral analyst to get dangerous people off the street and safely behind bars. But prison psychiatrist Sam Monroe knows that just because a killer is incarcerated doesn’t mean they’re not a threat. His own father, Peter, is a serial killer–in prison but certainly not out of Sam’s life, as much as he wishes he was.
When bodies start showing up with Peter’s MO, Sam and Grace are both called in to consult. They’ve met before–and though Grace thought they’d made a real connection, Sam ghosted her. They’ll have to get past the awkwardness and mistrust to solve this case–especially because it’s about to get personal.
Critical Threat is a roller coaster ride of murder, mayhem, and psychological profiling – so strap yourself in and get ready for an adventure!
I love the way that Eason combined so many exciting elements in this story. The action level is high – your heart rate will stay high throughout the story. With all of that heart-pounding suspense, though, comes glimpses into the inner-workings of the minds of serial killers. The main characters examine both the criminals around them, as well as their family issues and their own motivations, and this all combines into a fascinating look at what compels people to behave the way that they do.
Eason has mastered romantic tension, and you’ll never wonder what Grace and Sam are feeling. Throw in their dysfunctional family histories and the threats they’re currently under, and their plates are overflowing both personally and professionally. This made Critical Threat both an engaging and deep read for me.
If you’ve read Eason’s other books in her Extreme Measures series, you’ll definitely want to grab Critical Threat. If you’re a fan of romantic suspense and haven’t tried any of them yet, go ahead and grab the whole series, because while you could read this one as a stand-alone, you won’t want to – you’ll want them all.
