If you love romantic time travel stories, you’re going to love Jody Hedlund’s Never Leave Me from the Waters of Time series! Here’s what it’s all about:
In the last stages of a genetic disease, Ellen Creighton has decided to live out her remaining days at the estate of her longtime friend Harrison Burlington. Harrison cares deeply for Ellen, but as a wheelchair-bound paraplegic, he’s never allowed himself to get serious in a relationship. However, he’s desperately trying to save her by finding the holy water that is believed to heal any disease.
When he locates two flasks, Ellen refuses to drink one of them because she believes the holy water killed her sister and father. In an effort to convince her to take it, Harrison ingests the contents first, and when Ellen witnesses the effects, she can no longer deny the power of the substance in the bottles. Dangerous criminals are also seeking the holy water, and Ellen soon learns they will go to any lengths to get the powerful drug–including sending her back into the past to find it for them.
Jody Hedlund’s Never Leave Me is a romantic time-travel masterpiece! Ellen and Harrison’s story is even better than the first one – Come Back to Me – and that’s saying something, because this is a humdinger of a series. What else can you call a story that blends modern day science, Biblical miracles, and traveling through time to the 1380s – with all of the appropriate history and bad guys in both eras? Hedlund has penned an epic tale of love, science, and faith that will keep you on the edge of your seat all the way through.
That’s part of what makes it so great. I love a good romance story, and I grew up reading fantastic historical fiction. I’ve always been a fan of mystery and suspense, though, and sometimes I crave that fast pace and the drama that comes with it. Romance and historical fiction can’t always provide that – but Never Leave Me has it all in spades.
Harrison is a really hunky leading man – especially for a brilliant scientist – and his love story with Ellen is really fun. These characters grow and develop throughout the story in fun ways.
I loved the opportunity to catch up with my favorites from Come Back to Me, too. Hedlund outdid herself in the way that their story progressed while blending perfectly with the action from Never Leave Me.
Actually, with Ellen’s story, and information from Amazon, the series appears to be finished – but Hedlund left a few plotlines vague, making it possible for another story to fill in these details. I would love to see another story in this series because I’m not ready to leave these characters yet! Please, please write another!
Never Leave Me is the perfect book for those who can’t decide which genre to read – or who are ready to sink their teeth into a really deep but fast-moving story. Add it to your TBR today!
I received a complimentary copy of this book from the author. All opinions are my own.
