Wow! Jerusha Agen has crafted an intense, psychological thriller in Wasted, the second story in the Windy City Westons series.
I love Victoria’s dedication to her faith, her family, and her patients. She’s a strong character – just the kind I enjoy reading about – and intent upon protecting those she loves.
Both Victoria and Cillian are products of dysfunctional homes, and they’ve been hurt by those who should have protected them. This plays into their desire to make better choices, one of the things I admire about them both – but they don’t get it right on their first try. How hard it is to discern truth from lies, to know which voices to obey! The domineering voices and bullying ways are made clear in the end, but until then, if you struggle with those issues yourself, this book could be confusing to you.
If you’re not in your own struggle for independence, then examining the issues of peacekeeping, diplomacy, and right versus wrong could be fun for you – because this is one fast-paced, keep-you-guessing story. I enjoyed both the pace and the opportunity to look deeply at these issues, and I can’t wait to see what will happen to the Weston family next.
So if you’re a fan of twisty, turny novels with thorny plots and engaging characters, Wasted needs to be on your radar.
I received a complimentary copy of this book. All opinions are my own.
