Ronie Kendig’s newest book Range in The Metcalfes series releases this Friday – and it’s a doozy! Here’s what it’s all about:
Fed up with living in the shadow of his brothers, Range Metcalfe struck out to carve a name for himself—one written in the blood of many a terrorist. Now, he’s targeting the notorious Madam of Kandahar, who has trafficked children and women. Finally given the green light, he captures her and quickly finds himself entrenched up in a deadly encounter that forces him into the Afghan wilderness—with the madam.
Ten years trapped in human trafficking and five of those spent overseeing a compound, Kasra Jazani has little left of her soul. No longer able to live with herself, she takes matters into her own hands and coordinates an escape, a massive coup against the man who has kept her and so many others captive. They flee into the night—right into the fierce and capable hands of American operators, who ruin everything and put lives at risk. Livid, she knows death is coming for them, because she also holds a very dangerous, very powerful secret: the name of the man at the top of the trafficking ring. Now that monster wants her—and her American protector—dead.
OH. WOW. Ronie Kendig’s Range will make you question everything you thought you knew – and while that might throw you at first, it’s really the best kind of thing. Range is even more intense on his own than he was in his quick appearances in the previous books, and the chip on his shoulder has grown heavier with time. It’s honed his skills and focused his energies on finding justice for people who are hurt, neglected, or abused. His ideology is black and white and rarin’ for a fight.
That usually means that you’re going to find one, and Range is no exception. He has the means and skills to go after the baddies, and that’s his goal – only first he has to figure out who they are. Range is the best possible combination of Superman and Captain America because he’s Good and Patriotism personified – but what do you do when Evil doesn’t wear the face you thought it did?
Range’s adventure is so much more than fistfights and battle scenes, though there are lots of those. It’s also mental anguish and coming to terms with pain, betrayal, and disappointment. It’s learning to forgive and trust and tell the truth, and those internal battles are every bit as difficult as the ones you fight with your fists.
I love the way that Kendig is exploring the many facets of sex trafficking through this series. It seems like such a black-and-white issue, and it is in that it shouldn’t ever happen, but it also isn’t in that so many are caught within it by force and violence and pressure. There are so many angles and emotions and demons that must be dealt with, for survivors and their friends, families, and anyone in close contact with them, and Kendig delves into them with grace and care.
This series is a must-read for all who are able to read about these atrocities – because without knowing about them, we’ll never be equipped to arm ourselves with truth and take the action that we have been enabled to do, just as Kendig does by taking up her sword-pen and writing these stories. Range releases on September 30 – snag your copy now and get ready to do battle with evil.
I received a complimentary copy of this book from the author. All opinions are my own.
