Susan May Warren’s second book in the Sky King Ranch series, Sunburst, releases today – and it’s amazing! Here’s the synopsis:
When former Navy SEAL and lifelong bachelor Ranger Kingston is called upon to take part in a rescue mission to save his brother Colt, who has been kidnapped by terrorists in Nigeria, he is shocked to find among the hostages a woman he knows and could never forget.
Noemi Sutton was attempting to return a young girl to her family in Boko Haram territory when she and the girl found themselves taken hostage, along with several others.
And while Ranger Kingston may be able to get the hostages away from their captors, he’ll need Noemi’s help if he ever hopes to get out of Nigeria alive.
Her solution? Pose as husband and wife. But when her uncle discovers the union, he insists on a traditional Nigerian wedding–binding Noemi to a man destined to break her heart. Worse, she’s discovered the real reason she was kidnapped, and anyone around her is bound to be caught in the cross fire. Including her so-called new husband.
She’ll need to figure out a way to leave the man she loves if she wants to save his life.
Susan May Warren’s Sunburst has it all: action, adventure, world travel, romance, and suspense! It’s the kind of book I read in one sitting because I couldn’t put it down – and I know you’ll feel the same way. Here’s why.
After all of these pandemic years, I’m itchy to travel. I’m ready to see new things and taste new flavors, and you’ll do that and more in Sunburst as Noemi and Ranger traverse Nigeria. You’ll join them for some major cultural traditions in all of their vibrant color.
Ranger Kingston doesn’t show up where things are quiet and cozy – and that holds true for Sunburst. He’s needed in a big way in this story, and he puts all of his skills to use to save the day. He’s not the only one, either, and those action sequences coming from unexpected quarters add to the tension and made me love this cast even more.
Those action sequences have a blockbuster movie feel to them – like it’s all playing on the big screen of your mind – and they don’t happen as you’d expect. With so many surprise elements and the continued travel throughout the story, it makes for quite the adventurous read.
Noemi and Ranger make an exciting couple. With a wide variety of skills and experiences under their belt, they aren’t your typical neighbors – and that both pulls them together and keeps them apart. Will they find a way to make it work – or do they even want to? The chemistry between them sizzles – and it will keep you turning pages to find out.
I love that Warren writes books that are exciting in so many ways. I love how she combines my favorite fiction elements into a compelling, exciting, suspenseful story that I can’t put down – but best of all is the way that she weaves inspirational messages into each one. Ranger and Noemi have lessons to learn, and by the time you turn the last page, you’ll be drawn into their world and making that lesson your own. Warren always makes these lessons clear, gut-wrenchingly honest, and something that most will be able to relate to, at least in some small way. The lesson in Sunburst was especially compelling to me – and I’ll be pondering over this one for a long time to come.
So if you’re looking for a story that will keep you on the edge of your seat and up late into the night, make Sunburst your next summer read.
I received a complimentary copy of this book. All opinions are my own.
