Chris Grabenstein released his new Lemoncello book – Mr. Lemoncello’s All-Star Breakout Game – and I couldn’t wait to read it. Hello, it’s a Lemoncello!
Grabenstein continues the fun in the fourth installment of this wacky but educational series. Mr. Lemoncello has created a new Fictionasium behind the shelves in his library, and he’s set up a new escape-style game where three teams will solve challenges in a variety of genre-styled rooms. The first competitor out wins a hosting gig on the Kidzapalooza Network. Of course, Kyle Keely and friends, as well as Charles Chiltington, are all in it to win it. With CGI technology and a Narrative Drive Supercomputer out of control – with a little help from tense competitors – the suspense is high in this one.
Grabenstein built in some really great lessons in this book, as he does in each of the Lemoncello series – but what makes those even better is that it’s entirely reproducible, so you can bring the fun to life at home or in your classroom – minus the CGI, of course.
Introducing: An Escape Room to Accompany Mr. Lemoncello’s All-Star Breakout Game.
I had lots of fun putting this one together. Modeled after the challenges in the book, there is a warm-up code, six genre-themed puzzles, and then a final challenge that involves solving three codes of different types. We enjoyed solving these, and the puzzles are harder than they first appear!
I’m adding this to my TpT store so that your students can share in the fun. It includes complete teacher directions and is ready to print and go – no special tools or locks required (though directions to Lemoncello-ize the experience are included for extra fun, should you be so inclined). You’ll only need to print the included pages and provide pencils, and the students will do the rest. While learning about the history of comic books and fairy tales, about Chris Grabenstein’s journey to publication and more, they’ll write creatively, consider other perspectives, think critically, and much more.
You can find this breakout game, and many other creative Lemoncello resources, here.
