Crazy for You (Deep Haven Collection #3) by Susan May Warren - A Nest in the Rocks

Crazy for You (Deep Haven Collection #3) by Susan May Warren

The third novel in the Deep Haven Collection – Crazy for You – releases today! What’s it all about?

She’s doesn’t want any trouble…

Former soldier Veronica “Ronnie” Morales isn’t going to let her kid brother, Tiago, get pulled into the gangs of Minneapolis, so, seeking safety and a fresh start, she heads to sleepy Deep Haven on the north shore of Minnesota. She’s hoping to put down roots as the paramedic for the new Crisis Response Team, but it’s not easy to be the outsider.

He can’t seem to escape it…

It’s also not easy being the guy related to everyone in town. Especially when you’re the holdout vote for a landmark project. Fire Chief Peter Dahlquist might be the loneliest guy in town when both sides of his massive family—the Hatfields and McCoys of Deep Haven—demand that he pick sides. The only one who seems to understand is the newcomer in town…his new, albeit street-tough paramedic.

Can trouble bring them together?

When Tiago finds himself caught up in small town shenanigans and the town blames Ronnie for tragedy, Peter is forced to pick sides. But this choice just might cost him the home—and the woman—he loves.

Susan May Warren and debut author Michelle Sass Aleckson have hit it out of the park with their newest Deep Haven Collection story Crazy for You! I couldn’t put it down!

I love Ronnie Morales. She’s such a fun character – see my italicized gushing? She’s used to working hard and being independent, so moving to a small town where people look out for each other is a new thing for her. She wants so badly to fit in that she focuses on that – and she doesn’t know how to use the small-talk, social-graces that some people are so good at. Oops! As that’s so me – I’ve never been good at casual conversation that is neither deep nor focused – I can really relate to Ronnie and the lessons that she needed to learn in this story.

As a reader, you can’t help but feel sorry for Peter, even if he is (partly) in a boat of his own building. He’s the kind of stand-up guy that most women dream of, and reading about them is almost as good. He’s so good that he makes a really amazing male lead for this story.

As fun as the characters are, though, it’s the whole package that really makes this book. Ronnie is realistic and Peter is dreamy, but it’s the real-life problems they encounter that makes you want to cheer them on. We can all relate to wanting better for kids, to being torn between choices and family, and to want to impress certain people. Deeper than that, though, is a whole ‘nother layer: one of trust and acceptance and understanding and standing up for what you know is right, even when it’s hard. While this book has a fun layer of sparkle on top, underneath it’s a gem wrought from pressure and life lessons.

That’s why I recommend this book so whole-heartedly: it has the fun escape-factor of any beach read, but there are layers of meaning and depth to the story, too. I really hate reading fluff but sometimes you just need something fun, right? Crazy for You is that perfect combination.

I received a free copy of this book from the authors. All opinions are my own.
